" The specialty of Juhana IIvonen are leisurely, calm songs with a lot of feeling, beautiful, often with fingerpicking guitar accompaniment. He started his set with a song in his mother language "En Milloinkaan" (I Will Never). The song "Moonlight" comes from the latest production with wonderful fingerpicking guitar accompaniment, delightful key changes and chromatic chord sequences. With "This Corner Must Be Strange" Juhana's wonderful, full, voluminous bass voice really came into its own - the audience thanked him with concentrated silence and much applause. "Native One" is Juhana's dedication for the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall - many thanks for so much empathy! And he also has a sense of humor: He said that he was asked at a concert in Münster whether he also had something happy in the repertoire (funny, of all things in the Münsterland!). Juhana's answer to the question was three songs about the sun and brightness. "Dream We Lived", "Season’s Sun" and "Paradise" are beautiful, but also more of a deliberate variety. "Again" also has something to do with the sun, but it only shines after it has rained properly. As an encore he gave the audience the song "Some Good Time". A lot of applause for Juhana. Anyone who has bought their CDs will be rewarded with wonderful music for quiet candlelit evenings. In the end, John Harrison put it in a nutshell: "You are a wonderful island of tranquility".
Die Spezialität von Juhana IIvonen sind gemächliche, ruhige Lieder mit viel Gefühl, schöner, oft gezupfter Gitarrenbegleitung. Mit einem Lied in seiner Muttersprache „En Milloinkaan“ (Niemals werde ich) startete er sein Set. Aus neuester Produktion stammt das Lied „Moonlight“ mit herrlicher Fingerpicking Gitarrenbegleitung, reizvollen Tonartwechseln und chromatischen Akkordfolgen. Bei „This Corner Must Be Strange“ kam Juhanas wunderbare, volle, voluminöse Bassstimme so richtig zur Geltung – das Publikum dankte es ihm mit konzentrierter Stille und viel Beifall. „Native One“ ist Juhanas Widmung zum 30. Jahrestag des Falls der Berliner Mauer – ganz herzlichen Dank für so viel Empathie! Und Humor hat er auch: Er erzählte, dass er bei einem Konzert in Münster einst gefragt wurde, ob er auch etwas Fröhliches im Repertoire habe (witzig, ausgerechnet im Münsterland!). Juhanas Antwort auf die Frage waren drei Lieder, die von Sonne und Helligkeit handeln. „Dream We Lived“, „Season’s Sun“ und „Paradise“ sind wunderschön, aber auch eher von der bedächtigen Sorte. „Again“ hat auch etwas mit Sonne zu tun, die scheint aber erst nachdem es ordentlich geregnet hat. Als Zugabe schenkte er dem Publikum das Lied „Some Good Time“. Viel Applaus für Juhana. Wer seine CDs gekauft hat, wird mit wunderbarer Musik für stille Abende bei Kerzenschein belohnt. John Harrison brachte es am Schluss mit einem Satz auf den Punkt: „You are a wonderful island of tranquility“.

Last night I was carried away and enchanted by a warm voice. Juhana Iivonen, the Finnish singer-songwriter, who has long ceased to be an insider tip with us, performed in the Cafè Tasso and made hearts ring. His innovative melodies, which are beautiful and comforting to cry, are carried by the simple guitar sounds like wings. The atmosphere created in the room was the perfect autumn music for me. Golden leaves fall and turn to dust, we suspect winter with its cold and its beautiful festivities and still carry summer in our hearts and can still feel the last rays of sunshine on the nose. Anyone who thinks i`m cheesy should listen to album "Native One". Recorded live in 2014 with a jazz band in two sessions in Helsinki and Porvoo. Gestern Abend wurde ich von einer warmen Stimme davongetragen und verzaubert. Juhana Iivonen, der finnische Singer- Songwriter, der auch bei uns schon lange kein Geheimtipp mehr ist, trat im Cafè Tasso auf und brachte Herzen zum Klingen. Seine innovativen Melodien, die zum weinen schön und tröstlich sind, werden von den schlichten Gitarrenklängen wie von Flügeln schwingend getragen. Die im Raum entstandene Atmosphäre war für mich die perfekte Herbstmusik. Goldene Blätter fallen und werden zu Staub, wir ahnen den Winter mit seiner Kälte und seinen schönen Festen und tragen noch den Sommer im Herzen und spüren noch die letzten Sonnenstrahlen auf der Nase.
Wer mich jetzt für kitschig hält, dem sei das Album: „Native One“ wärmsten empfohlen. Aufgenommen im Jahr 2014 mit einer Jazzband live eingespielt in zwei Sessions in Helsinki und Porvoo.
